This Caldera Closed LTD uses a portion of my cherished "stash" of Queensland Maple. I found this wood through a collector, who had it pictured on their website for years, and after much deliberation I decided to buy their complete stock of it, knowing that I likely would never see such a stunning set of the wood again. Despite its name, Queensland Maple isn’t a true maple. It belongs to the Flindersia genus rather than the Acer genus, which includes true maple trees. Its name likely comes from its resemblance to maple in terms of its fine grain and workability.
Most Queensland Maple comes from Australia, but these slabs were grown in Hawaii. Queensland Maple is visually stunning due to its rich, golden hues and intricate grain patterns, these slabs are heavily figured, with medium curl and superlative chatoyance, I'm using a light vintage maple stain to bring out the depth of the curls and figure in the wood.

The current LTD wood for the Caldera is Queensland Maple - It features an Aluminum Charcoal Chassis, Copper Rods, and an Espresso BBB Strap. Magnesium Options and Black rods are available.
