Don’t let the name fool you—Queensland Maple isn’t a “true” maple at all, but a member of the citrus-family Rutaceae. Its relatively light weight (≈ 35 lb/ft³) and modest Janka hardness of 810 lbf make it a naturally resonant choice that keeps the Caldera’s planar diaphragm lively and open-sounding without tipping into excess warmth. The massive collector-grade slabs we sourced show chatoyant ribbons and scattered burl eyes, so every cup flashes a different golden sparkle as the light moves. Because the wood is less dense than the harder ZMF offerings, you’ll notice a slightly airier stage and a hair longer decay—which balances perfectly with the Caldera’s fast transients.
