After having the CS-100 DAC as a staple of our line-up over the past few years I was excited to hear about the CS-100 DAP. My understanding and use of this suggest that the DAC is very similar, if not the same as the solid state side of the CS-100 DAC, while adding in the features of the Android streamer that comes in the new iDAP-8. With this you get kind of a hybrid super DAC/Streamer that can do Roon and whatever else apps from Android that you want to run, with an aded bonus of a serviceable headphone amp/jack out. I will say the headphone Jack is usable, but if buying this you likely have other options. Overall - the CS-100 series IMHO is one of the best values in DACs today as it compares favorably to many higher priced options.

The newest streamer/DAC from Cayin is named CS-100DAP and is supposed to offer plenty of functions and options; for example many different outputs. The signal streamed by it can either be output via digital coaxial, optical, BNC, I2S/DSD in HDMI or AES/EBU, or analog – converted by an ESS Sabre ES9028Pro – via RCA or XLR. In addition, the CS-100DAP offers a built-in headphone amplifier with a 6.35 mm jack on the front, which is automatically activated when headphones are connected.
Streamed music can be processed by the Cayin CS-100DAP in resolutions up to DSD512 and PCM 32 bit / 768 kHz, and that quickly and reliably, among other things, thanks to the Qualcomm SDM660 eight-core processor and an Android-based operating system, according to the manufacturer. It can receive music wirelessly via Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth. Furthermore, the performance is supposed to be further improved by the fact that both the digital and analog sections of the device each have their own separate transformer for power supply.
The new Cayin streamer is controlled either via the HD display on the front or the "HibyCast" app. Music can also be played from externally connected media storages; the Cayin carries an SD card slot as well as USB connections for this purpose. Up to two hard drives in 2.5-inch format can also be integrated directly, for which a slot with SATA connections is available on the bottom of the streamer.
