Aegis Amplifier

I first heard the DIY version of the Aegis Amplifier at CanJam SoCal in 2022. It was a shocking moment for me as the amount of breadth, space, oomph, and realism was overwhelming. Although it was during a show, I would “steal” the seat in the room often to listen as much as I could. And then, also having built up a huge tube collection by that time, once I got one in the shop I had to try the Aegis with all the tubes I had, and all the ZMF and non-ZMF headphones that I could find. Even after all the tube amp collecting and gear that I have gone through, the Aegis continued to make me excited to figure out what I was going to listen to every time because everything sounded exciting again.

The aesthetic design of the amplifier is inspired by aviation dashboards and iconic brands like Chicago's own power amps like Zenith. By integrating elements from vintage audio and the unique characteristics of ZMF, the design will fit in in any environment, be it a hoarders paradise, or a suave modern minimalist chique playground.

Aegis currently features: Walnut Faceplate, Foundry Copper Vein Chassis and Covers, and a Copper Knob, Accent Plate and Power Button.  

Cathode Follower
A unique circuit makes the Aegis sound unlike other amps on the market.

Optimized Power
With 6 different impedance options based on XLR and 1/4" values this will drive any dynamic or planar headphone, even those in the 75-80dB/mW range!  The 4.4TRRRS jack has a voltage divider for sensitive IEMs and headphones.
Input impedance: 20kOhms

Output Impedance Range: 1/4" Out:  Low: 5ohms, Med: 11ohms, High: 31ohms.  XLR Out: Low: 11ohms Med: 28ohms High: 85ohms

Power: Average of 2 Watts, 1/4" and XLR 1W to 2.5W, calculated based on headphones from 8 to 300 ohms.

Frequency response: -3dB from 11Hz - 33kHz
THD+N at 1mW: < 0.05%

Tube Types:  - Rectifier - 5V / 2A or 3A types; GZ34/5AR4, 5V4/GZ32, 5R4, 274B. 5Y3, 5U4G

Stock tubes are JJ Electronics EL34, 6SL7 and GZ34.
